According to reports published by the Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) and the Breezenewspaper.com, traffic through the terminal showed a 1.7 percent increase over the same time period June to July 2011. Additionally, Page Field had an increase of 16 percent from this time last year. The top five carriers at Southwest Florida International Airport were Delta, AirTran, Southwest, JebBlue, and US airways. Increases were not limited to Lee County either, Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) also added to this sunny news by adding a new carrier to its fleet. Allegiant Airlines chose to start service to select areas on June 27th 2012. Allegiant Airlines will provide service to cities such as Fort Wayne, Indiana, South Bend, Indiana, Peoria, Illinois, and Niagara Falls, New York among other select locations. This latest trend spells good news for the local economy and indicates a positive trend in travel and tourism.
