Dr. Torres has close to 40 years of experience in real estate analysis, valuation, brokerage, and investment banking, with emphasis on the hospitality industry and international real estate. From1989 to 2009, Dr. Torres was President/Chief Appraiser of Property Appraisers, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in commercial realty. He was also the President and CEO of Intrex Capital Corporation, specializing in commercial loans and mortgage products. In addition, he was a Managing Partner of Intrex Realty Capital LLC, the General Partner of a group of private equity funds in development geared towards realty acquisition, mortgage portfolios, venture capital, and other endeavors.
He has undertaken real estate analyses and valuations for Hilton, Sheraton, Rock Resorts, Reliance Group Holdings, and Gulf+Western Industries, among others. Major assignments have included Casa de Campo (Dominican Republic), Palmas del Mar (Puerto Rico), Holiday Inn (US), and Mullet Bay (Sint Maarten). At Casa de Campo, Dr. Torres was responsible for the original marketing and feasibility studies for the entire 7,000 acre resort, and made a presentation to the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic on the resort’s potential contribution to the nation’s balance of payments.
In 1982 he was a Special Projects Coordinator with Bache Government Securities (Puerto Rico), responsible for new real estate business. He held Registered Principal, Registered Branch Office Manager, and Commodities licenses. Prior to that, he was the Principal Counselor at the New York Office of Real Estate Research Corporation.
Dr. Torres holds a BA degree (Physics/Mathematics) from the University of Puerto Rico, an MBA (Finance/Real Estate) from the Harvard Business School, an MA (Education) from New York University, and a PhD (Business Administration) from California Coast University. He is a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser, and a Licensed Real Estate Broker.
Although now retired from most ventures, he is still active in appraisals and real estate brokerage. René is also active in the community, presently on the Executive Board of the Los Angeles Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, where he serves on the Audit Committee.
